Jogging it down: my week in review {}

Traveling derails everything for me.

For one, our trips are always short, with a lot of people to see in just a few days. This means I am very hard pressed to find some solid running hours. Two, all the visiting means late nights, so getting up early for a run before the day gets moving doesn’t really work. Three, my form of self-control with eating is simply not buying things. I’m a notorious snacker and if food is in front of me, I’ll keep eating. So visits and holidays with lots of big family dinners and extra treats around for “guests” (i.e. us) pretty much means I eat more than I should. Like this:

Desert time: carrot cake, fresh fruit, and a chocolate peanut butter pie not pictured. And yes, I had to have a bit of everything.


Elegant breakfast a la the brother- and sister-in-law. Baked pancakes, baked egg dish and fresh fruit.

I’ve been back at work since Tuesday and I honestly feel like I’m STILL recovering! To the point that something seems off; I’ve been so lethargic this week it’s ridiculous. Getting up early for a couple runs absolutely was not happening, and doing some yoga this morning was a huge effort.

To top it off, it’s hot and I haven’t been drinking enough water. Not early enough. Not even close to what I usually drink. That probably has more to do with my blah–ness than anything else.

Anyway, here’s what I did manage to do in the last 2 weeks:

Tuesday, July 2

• 3 mile commute, bike

Wednesday, July 3

• Quick 10:00 workout before hitting the road
1:00 each, 1 round: #plankaday, crunches, pushups, bridges, back ext., plank tucks, dips, leg lifts, squats, calf raises.

Thursday, July 4

• 30:00 workout
1:00 each, 3 rounds: #plankaday, crunches, pushups, bridges, back ext., plank tucks, dips, leg lifts, squats, calf raises.

Friday, July 5

• 5.29 miles, 58:37 (11:04 pace)
Hot morning + heavy legs + hilly neighborhood + not *really* knowing my way around = a sluggish run. At least I got one run done while visiting!

• Strength: 50 each walking lunges, jump squats, crunches, pushups.

Wednesday, July  10

• 3 mile commute, walk

Thursday, July 11

• 3 mile commute, bike

Friday, July 12

• 3 mile commute, walk
• 30:00 morning yoga

So what I’m really saying is that I’ve had one run since my 15 miler. Blah. Gotta change that with some decent mileage this weekend.

    Ugh. I hear you. Traveling is the worst, and I get really mad if I make the effort to pack my stuff and not use it. And as for the food- half the reason I like to travel is to eat new food! Cut yourself some slack- you’ll get back into it in no time!

      True… I did manage one run, so bringing my gear wasn’t a total waste. I normally don’t worry about the extra eating – just a part of trips and I want to enjoy myself – but the fact that I still feel “off” days later makes this time a little different. Gotta focus and do/eat things I know make my body happy! 🙂

      Yep. I have another trip in a month, so I really want to focus on routine the next four weeks before I throw everything out of the loop again. I’m a creature of habit if nothing else! I just know when I don’t feel normal and need to change something.
